“Chautauqua’s Got Talent”, sponsored by BoralexFortis & Alberta Wind Energy Corporation provides an opportunity for up & coming performers to showcase their emerging talents.

Prize money, sponsored by Boralex, Fortis & Alberta Wind Energy Corporation is as follows:

  • 1st place winner will receive $2,000.00
  • 2nd place winner will receive $1,000.00
  • 3rd place winner will receive $500.00

In order to compete in “Chautauqua’s Got Talent” a competitor must abide by the rules & regulations

 1. To compete in “Chautauqua’s Got Talent”

  • A competitor (solo/group) will share their talent in music, dance or performing arts

2. Deadline for competitor submission is 11:59 pm, Friday, May 25, 2018

3. Submission requirements

  • Upload your video audition to YouTube (it is recommended that the video have a close up of the competitor, provide a clear image and audio where the vocal performance is not overpowered by the background music)
  • Complete the registration form below, providing the video audition link
  • A competitor’s performance must be geared to a family audience, a video that contains explicit language, swearing or suggestive lyrics or actions will not be considered 

4. Invitation to compete

  • By Monday, May 28, 2018 all submissions will be reviewed and up to 25 performers will be invited to compete

5. If invited to compete, all competitors are required to complete the following before 3:00pm on Friday, June 1, 2018:

  • Submit a bio
  • Pay a $50.00 admission fee (The Town of Magrath accepts all forms of payment. Cheques can be sent to Box 520 Magrath Alberta T0K1J0; credit card, cash or debit can be paid directly in the Magrath Town Office)
  • Provide the tech crew with any backing materials ( Mp3, ACC, WAV)

6. Pre-performance - Friday afternoon, June 15, 2018 in Cardston

Competitors will be given a specific time to check in with coordinators of “Chautauqua’s Got Talent” and to meet with the coordinator of the tech crew at the Sound Barrier Stage. At that time, a competitor:

  • Will provide the tech crew with any equipment needed for their performance 
  • Can talk with the tech crew about the staging responsibilities 
  • Can complete sound checks 
  • Can ultimately get set up for their evening performance
  • Competitors will be given 4 - all inclusive admission wristbands (for admission to all Chautauqua activities in both Cardston & Magrath) 

7. Friday Evening - June 15, 2018 starting at 6:00pm in Cardston

  • Competitors will compete on the Sound Barrier Stage
  • Each competitor will have up to 1 minute for introductions and up to 4 minutes maximum to perform (over 4 minutes will be penalized)
  • Judging will be based on:
    • technical skills - 10 points
    • stage charisma - 10 points
    • originality - 10 points
    • overall impression - 20 points
  • The top 9 “Chautauqua’s Got Talent” performers according to the judges will move on to compete in Magrath on Saturday, June 16
  • 1 performer will move on to compete based on a people’s choice award

8. Pre-performance - Saturday afternoon, June 16, 2018 in Magrath

  • Competitors will be given a specific time to check in with the coordinators of “Chautauqua’s Got Talent” and to meet with the coordinator of the tech crew at the ATCO Stage to ultimately get set up for the evening performance 

9. Saturday Evening - June 16, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in Magrath

  • The Finale of “Chautauqua’s Got Talent” will be on the Sound Barrier Stage 
  • The winners will be announced (decision of judges is final) 
  • Prize money will be awarded
